SAIC to provide Secure Freight inspection machines Science Applications International Corp. said Tuesday it has received a contract from U.S. Customs and Border Protection to install three X-ray container inspection portals at foreign ports as part of the Secure Freight Initiative pilot program.
   The Department of Homeland Security is testing the concept of conducting non-intrusive exams of all containers transiting three ports and exams of a limited number of containers at four other ports. The ports will be outfitted with drive-through imaging, radiation detection and photographic equipment, and the files will be electronically sent to CBP for security analysis before loading on a vessel.
   San Diego-based SAIC said it will provide its VACIS P7500 vehicle and cargo inspection system, which can scan 150 containers per hour.
