HHLA intermodal subsidiary serves new terminal

Metrans is the first company to offer regular rail services that link Schwarzheide with the Port of Hamburg and Ceska Trebova.    Metrans, the intermodal rail subsidiary of port terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), began serving a rail terminal Schwarzheide, Germany this week.
   The Schwarzheide terminal, operated by Bertschi Global Logistics, is located in the German state of Brandenburg, between Germany’s seaports and Ceska Trebova, Metrans’ second Czech Republic hub terminal after Prague.
   Metrans is the first company to offer regular rail services that link Schwarzheide with the Port of Hamburg and Ceska Trebova. Serving the Schwarzheide terminal upgrades Metrans’ network by enhancing its services in eastern Saxony and south-eastern Brandenburg, the company said in a statement.
   Schwarzheide features six railway tracks, can store up to 1,700 containers and has a portal crane with a span of 90 meters.
   Metrans will use its own locomotives and carriages, which have the ability to carry all containers permitted in intermodal transport, ranging from 20 to 45 feet.
