SAVI TECHNOLOGY LAUNCHES SINGAPORE R&D CENTER    Savi Technology, the provider of supply chain asset management and collaborative software, has launched a research and development center in Singapore.
   The center, located within Savi's Singapore office, will focus on the development of software systems for the operational management and security of transportation assets an containers across all modes of transport ' ocean, air, rail and truck.
Headed by Keith Laidlaw, Savi's vice president, Asia engineering, the center will draw on the expertise of software development teams and researchers at Savi's global headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif., and on Singapore-based engineers and programmers.
   'As both a premier logistics hub and a world-class technology center, Singapore provides a rich environment for the design and development of technologies that enable and extend real-time visibility and security of cargo worldwide,' Laidlaw said.
   Singapore's trade in 2001 reached S$426 billion (about $235 billion) up 278 percent from the prior year's estimated GDP of about S$153 billion, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics.
