Nansha continues growth story in 1H

   Container traffic at the Port of Guangzhou’s Nansha deepwater complex has continued to grow in a robust fashion in 2012, according to statistics released by the Guangzhou Port Group (GPG) Monday.
   Nansha, a set of terminals on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, saw total volume grow 20.1 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2012, to nearly 4.7 million TEUs. Of that, international traffic grew 62.3 percent, to nearly 1.7 million TEUs.
   A large percentage of Nansha’s volume comes from China’s sizable domestic trade between the Pearl River Delta area and the nation’s northeast ports, with consumer goods made in South China moving north and raw materials from the north heading south.
   Total container volume through GPG ports (which include river terminals closer to Guangzhou) grew 14.8 percent in the first half of the year, to 5.9 million TEUs.
