Service Announcements: “K” Line and World Distribution Services

“K” Line takes delivery of 14,000-TEU containership Millau Bridge, while World Distribution Services opens a new facility in Cincinnati, Ohio.    Ocean carrier “K” Line has taken delivery of the Millau Bridge, the first of five 14,000-TEU containerships ordered in 2013 from the Imabari Shipbuilding Co. The ship will be deployed on the CKYHE Alliance’s Asia-North Europe NE2 service, according to a statement from the company.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, the NE2 loop is operated with 10 vessels, five each from “K” Line and fellow CKYHE member Yang Ming, with an average capacity of 8,255 TEUs. The full port rotation of the NE2 is Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Yantian, Singapore, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Antwerp, Port Said, Singapore, and back to Hong Kong. Ocean3 member carrier CSCL also takes slots on the service.
   “K” Line has also placed an order for five more 14,000-TEU vessels at Imabari Shipbuilding, which will be delivered in 2018. In addition to “K” Line and Yang Ming, the CKYHE Alliance includes COSCO Container Line, Hanjin Shipping and Evergreen Line.

   Logistics provider World Distribution Services, a division of The World Group of Companies, will open a new supply chain and warehousing facility in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 1, 2015. 
   WDS Vice President John Morrow said in a statement the warehouse will feature “41,200 square feet of warehouse space with room to expand to 160,000 square feet, T5 lighting throughout, 7 dock doors, 28’ clear height, expansive trailer parking and easy major freeway access.”
   “We look forward to elevating our service offerings through our expansion in this market,” added Morrow. “This strategic expansion demonstrates how committed WDS is to the Ohio Valley market as well as our dedication to meeting our customers’ needs in 2015 and beyond.”
