The company previously said it would increase shipping rates for FedEx Express by an average of 5.9 percent for U.S. domestic and U.S. export services, also effective Jan. 4. The FedEx Express rate increase will be partially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuel surcharge by two percentage points, FedEx added.
Changes will also be made to other FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery surcharges as of Jan. 4, with adjustments additionally to be made to the FedEx Express and FedEx Ground fuel surcharge tables. The details of surcharge changes and the new rates are available here.
UPS, FedEx's parcel competitor, announced Nov. 20 a similar 4.9 average rate increase for UPS Ground shipments, air express and U.S.-origin international shipments beginning on Jan. 4.
