UAL Corp. posts $61 million 4th quarter loss

UAL Corp. posts $61 million 4th quarter loss UAL Corp., parent company of United Airlines, reported a fourth quarter net loss of $61 billion, but managed to post a profit of $25 million in the 11 months after it exited bankruptcy in February.
   UAL's fourth quarter loss in 2005 was $17 billion, largely the result of reorganization and special items.
   In the latest quarter, UAL made an operating profit of $23 million, compared to a $182 million operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2005. Group revenue rose 5 percent to $4.6 billion from $4.4 billion.
   UAL ended the quarter with $5 billion in cash, including $847 million in restricted cash.
   'We have accomplished much this year against our performance agenda to control costs, improve revenue and deliver an improved customer experience, and the momentum from that work continues,' said Glenn Tilton, UAL's chairman, president and chief executive officer.
