U.S. air freight traffic down 3.5% in August

U.S. air freight traffic down 3.5% in August    The U.S. Air Transport Association reported another month of decreasing U.S. international freight and express traffic for August, with freight totals falling by 3.5 percent, to 895 million revenue ton-miles.
   This follows a 3-percent fall in U.S. international freight and express traffic for July, to 919 million revenue ton-miles.
   Transpacific cargo volumes were up 2.6 percent in August, but traffic dropped by 15.3 percent on the Latin routes and 7.5 percent on transatlantic routes.
   The association also reported that total domestic freight and express traffic fell by 2.6 percent in August, to 930 million ton-miles.
   U.S. Air Transport Association members include Alaska, Aloha, America West, American, American Trans Air, Continental, Continental Micronesia, Delta, Emery, Federal Express, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Midwest, Northwest, Southwest, United, UPS and U.S. Airways.
