P&O Nedlloyd christens first 8,450-TEU containership

P&O Nedlloyd christens first 8,450-TEU containership    P&O Nedlloyd, an ocean transportation and logistics company, has christened its latest and largest vessel, the 8,450-TEU 'P&O Nedlloyd Mondriaan,' at a ceremony in Rotterdam.
   The Netherlands Olympic gold medalist Inge de Bruijn named the new ship in honor of the Dutch abstract painter, Piet Mondriaan. The vessel has entered service in the Europe Far East trade.
   'Ships of this size are now essential to cater to the booming trade flows on this route, which are driven by buoyant consumer demand in Europe and the continuing shift of outsourcing by other manufacturers and retailers to the Far East, particularly China,' said Philip Green, chief executive officer of P&O Nedlloyd, which has a fleet of 156 vessels worldwide.
