EWL to join transatlantic with new Halifax call    Rotterdam-based Europe West Indies Lines will later this month join the transatlantic trade by adding calls at the Port of Halifax, Nova Scotia to its existing Europe/Caribbean/North Coast South America Mainliner service.
   The first vessel to set sail on the new rotation is scheduled to leave Rotterdam Sept. 18 before arriving at the Canadian port Sept. 29.
   The Mainliner service uses four ships averaging 1,080 TEUs and will have a revised port rotation of Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Bilbao, Halifax, Philipsburg, Port of Spain, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Willemstad, Cartagena, Puerto Cortes, Santo Tomas de Castilla and back to Rotterdam.
   The service has a sailing frequency of every eight to nine days, but EWL plans to upgrade it to a fixed-day weekly schedule at the start of next year with extra ships, according to the Halifax Port Authority.
