Transit and ground passenger transportation segments in particular added 4,500 jobs, while the air sector added 2,000 positions and warehousing saw a 200-job increase. Courier and sightseeing transportation employment was up 800 and 100 jobs, respectively.
Those increases were offset by losses in the rail, water and truck transportation sectors, down 300, 200 and 100 jobs, respectively. In addition, pipeline transport and support activities for transportation lost 3,400 jobs in total.
May’s employment gain follows a revised loss of 200 transportation and logistics-related jobs last month.
