Corpus Christi renews Cuba link The Texas port of Corpus Christi is continuing to maintain its connection with the Cuba trade.
   Corpus Christi Port Commissioner chairman Ruben Bonilla and Pedro Alvarez from the Cuban food import company Alimport last Friday signed a letter of intent to maintain their trade relationship, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
   The port signed its first agreement with Alimport three years ago. The report said that since signing the agreement, more that 100,000 metric tons of agricultural products have been shipped to Cuba via Corpus Christi.
   The renewal of the Corpus Christi-Alimport relationship comes as the Bush administration and some members of Congress are seeking to tighten sanctions against trade with Cuba. Officials in Corpus Christi have been working for several years to gain a foothold in the market, saying they are looking ahead to a time when the U.S. and Cuba have more normal trade relations.
