UPS chief rallies support for global trade    Scott Davis, UPS chairman and chief executive officer, used a speech before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to rally support for global trade, saying it “has become the emotional punching bag of many politicians and protectionists.
   'Global trade is one of the most important tools we have to help lift us out of the financial crisis,” contended said Davis who became head of the logistics giant in January 2008. He asked his audience to “engage the administration, the legislature, the labor unions” in efforts to prevent new trade barriers from being erected.
   Davis claimed global trade has resulted in relatively few job losses, pointing to a Bureau of Labor Statistics study that he said found in the case of layoffs of 50 or more people between 1996 and 2004, fewer than 3 percent were attributable to import competition or overseas relocation.
   And he said 57 million Americans now work for companies that engage in global commerce. That includes UPS, and he said each time his company carries 40 new international packages in the United States, his company creates another job in its system.
