Port of Tampa sees first cable shipment from Korea

Port of Tampa sees first cable shipment from Korea The Port of Tampa has received the first of two large shipments of electrical cable shipped from Taihan Electric Wire Co. Ltd. in South Korea to the consignee, Progress Energy in St. Petersburg.
The first shipment, moved by Nordana Line, included about 1,400 metric tons of electrical cable. The cable was discharged in reels weighing 26 tons each.
WSI provided stevedoring services and Aerocosta Global System handled the freight forwarding and logistics services. The shipment was offloaded at Tampa's Berth 208, which is managed by Ports America.
'These shipments of electric wire are a testament to Tampa's capabilities and flexibility in handling a wide range of products,' said Richard Wainio, Port of Tampa director and chief executive officer.

On hand for the unloading of a 1,400-metric ton shipment of electric cable from South Korea to Tampa were (from left) Je-Hoon Kim, project manager for Taihan Electric USA; Sung Woo Ju, sales manager for Taihan Electric USA; Jun-Chai Youn, manager trading support and logistics control team for Taihan Electric in Seoul, South Korea; and Mike Chung, director for Jamaica, N.Y.-based forwarder Aerocosta Global System.

Port officials are excited about the move because Taihan Elective Wire is one of the world's leading manufacturers of electric cable, specializing in high voltage and fiber optic cables. The company is also expanding in Asia, becoming one of the first to establish subsidiaries in China and Mongolia.
The next shipment is scheduled to arrive Dec. 10
