The partnership will leverage Park City’s product “synchronization” technology that maintains inventories, tracks product movement, and is used to settle financial transactions among buyers.
Leavitt Partners, a health care and food safety consulting firm, said the firms will start with a database of seller and buyer connections to identify the source of any suspect products and from there track it throughout the supply chain.
The service will help food retailers, food service operators, wholesalers, and manufacturers stay compliant with current and future regulations resulting from the Food Safety Modernization Act. It will also provide tracking and tracing of pharmaceuticals through the supply chain from manufacturer to retailer, which is required under many state and federal laws.
“The federal and state level food and drug tracking and tracing laws are placing a significant responsibility on retailers, manufacturers and other suppliers to know exactly where their product comes from and where it’s going to,” said Rich McKeown, Leavitt’s president, in a statement.
The companies said their solutions work with existing electronic documents, requiring no special labeling, hardware, or software. They also said it will allow for quick removal of suspect products from the supply chain.
