Greatwide buys Overton from Sysco

Greatwide buys Overton from Sysco    Greatwide Logistics Services said it has acquired the contracts, personnel and equipment of Overton Transportation, a subsidiary of Sysco Corp.
   Overton has 70 tractors, 100 trailers and 133 employees operating out of a terminal in La Vergne, Tenn. Greatwide, with its than 4,000 tractors on the road, would make it “one of the largest 3PL service providers for produce and other temperature-controlled products,” the company said.
   'The acquisition of Overton Transportation allows us to provide new temperature-controlled logistics solutions that many of our grocery customers have requested,' said John Simone, president and chief operating officer, Greatwide Logistics Services. 'Overton also enhances our capabilities in our current one-way truckload offering. When combined with our dedicated and brokerage competencies, there are significant opportunities to collaborate and innovate in ways neither of us could have done on our own.'
   Greatwide said that through the use of team drivers it will operate expedited temperature-controlled service from coast to coast, allowing for fast transit of perishable goods from the grower to wholesale and retail distribution points.
