Marshall Islands registry sees membership boost from Japan, Korea

Marshall Islands registry sees membership boost from Japan, Korea International Registries Inc., the administrator for the Marshall Islands registry, expects an increase in the number of vessels from Japan and South Korea, following the decentralization of the registry and the development of local offices in both countries.
   IRI said that during the next three years Japanese owners have indicated they will register more than 100 vessels of upwards of 3 million tons and Korean owners have committed to 50 vessels totaling 1.5 million tons. The IRI offices are located in Tokyo and Seoul.
   'Our global network of 17 offices and local offices in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Shanghai and Dalian means that Asian owners can have access to timely registration and technical support services from the Marshall Islands registry around the world on a 24/7 basis,' said Annie Ng, managing director of International Registries (Far East) Ltd., in a statement.
