More radiation detectors for Port Everglades

More radiation detectors for Port Everglades    Port Everglades said it will install seven new radiation detection devices by mid-August.
   The port has been increasing number of radiation detection devices, as federal officials move toward a Department of Homeland Security goal of having virtually all U.S.-inbound containers scanned for radiation by the end of this year.
   Pacific Northwest National Laboratory won the contract to install the radiation portal monitors at Port Everglades.
   Port Everglades also uses portable radiation detectors and other container-checking equipment that can detect anomalies in containers based on the shape and density of the contents.
   Radiation detection monitors are also in place at several other Florida ports, with six at the Port of Miami, four at the Port of Palm Beach, and two at the Port of Panama City, according the Customs and Border Protection. Devices are being installed in Tampa and Jacksonville. By the end of this year, there will be 40 of the detectors in place in Florida.
