HAROPA volumes jump 2.4% in 2015

The Northern European port system that comprises the Port of Le Havre, the Port of Rouen and the Port of Paris, handled 91.4 million tons of cargo in 2015, a 2.4 percent increase from 2014.    HAROPA, the Northern European port system that comprises the Port of Le Havre, the Port of Rouen and the Port of Paris, handled 91.4 million metric tons of cargo in 2015, a 2.4 percent increase from 2014.
   Liquid bulk volumes rose 5.7 percent from 2014. Crude oil imports alone increased 7.5 percent year-over-year, which HAROPA attributed to the high refining margins.
   Dry bulk volumes rose 4.1 percent from 2014. Grain volumes, which jumped 12.6 percent year-over-year to 8.1 million metric tons, experienced the best year since 2010.
   In addition, container traffic and business at the roll-on/roll-off terminals increased 0.7 percent and 7 percent, year-over-year, respectively.
   Looking ahead, this year HAROPA plans to invest approximately 150 million euros (U.S. $162.6 million) to upgrade the Francois 1 and Tancarville locks at the Port of Le Havre, launch a new dredging phase to deepen the access channel of the Port of Rouen (between Courval and Duclair) and invest in large-scale works for the ‘Grand Paris’ project.
