RailServe said it intends to buy a hybrid yard locomotive with the help of a state grant upon successful completion of the test.
The locomotive, manufactured by RailPower Technologies Inc., can cut nitrous oxide and diesel particulate emissions by 80 to 90 percent and achieve 50 to 80 percent fuel savings compared to conventional yard locomotives, the companies said
