Schneider driver program seeks military vets Schneider National, the nation’s largest truckload carrier, said Tuesday it has launched a new campaign to attract military veterans as truck drivers for its fleet.
   The Green Bay, Wis.-based trucking company said it would work with the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide incentives for service men and women to become owner-operators working for Schneider.
   Schneider said it will provide training, mentoring and financial assistance to help veterans enter the business and purchase a truck.
   Under the new program, Schneider will be offering veterans the ability to have their training subsidized by using their GI Bill benefits to cover the cost of commercial drivers' license training at Schneider's Driver Training Academies. In addition, Schneider will work closely with vets to provide technical support so they are able to become owner-operators six months sooner than prospective owner-operators with no military background.
   Schneider has been a leader in the trucking industry in trying to address a potential driver shortage by promoting trucking as a career for new demographic groups.
