MOL has new reefer monitoring system

MOL has new reefer monitoring system    MOL said it has installed an automatic monitoring system for refrigerated containers at the Tokyo International Container Terminal.
   The system, from the Tokyo-based telecommunications and engineering firm Wilco Inc., transmits information through power lines from the containers to the terminal office.
   MOL noted the temperature in the reefer container had been controlled by connecting a special cable for monitoring or by periodic visual checks. It said the new system ensures safe and reliable control of temperature 24 hours a day. The monitored data is stored, so terminal personnel can track time-oriented changes in temperature.
   It said the new system is an improvement over previous monitoring systems using power lines that were subject to interference from the surrounding environment, preventing wide acceptance. But it said demonstration testing proved that the new system is not affected by interference, and provides accurate, real-time information.
   MOL said it plans to install the system at its other operated container terminals in Japan and overseas.
