U.S. awards $530,000 grant for Thai Airways security study    The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded a $530,000 grant to Thai Airways International Public Co. Ltd. to develop a threat assessment and security implementation plan for its operations at the new Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport due to open in September 2005.
   Thai Airways will be the largest tenant at the new airport and a major supplier of aviation-related services to other airlines using the airport.
   USTDA said the grant affirms the Bush administration’s commitment to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) goals for the region. In particular, it supports the Secure Trade in the APEC Region (STAR) initiative, which seeks to accelerate efforts to screen passengers and cargo before transit, increase security on ships and planes while en route, secure private company supply chains, and enhance security at airports and seaports.
