Sauceda honored for import safety workSauceda honored for import safety workv Cathy Sauceda, director of commercial enforcement and policy in the Office of International Trade at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, was one of 14 people who received the Department of Homeland Security’s Silver Medal last week.
   Sauceda was honored for “outstanding service/achievements contributing significantly to the safety of imports.”
   She played a key role in helping draft the presidential action plan on import safety that was produced by a Cabinet-level working group in November. The group and its staff subcommittees had four short months to come up with a plan to quell public concern about food and product safety following a series of safety problems and recalls associated with products from China and other nations. About 50 percent of the recommendations have a direct connection to work that CBP does.
   The Silver Medal is the second-highest award granted by the secretary of Homeland Security.
