ITC will investigate patent infringements

ITC will investigate patent infringements    The U.S. International Trade Commission decided on Wednesday to institute three Section 337 investigations of alleged patent infringements on products including Blackberry handsets and LCD televisions.
   The three investigations will look at:
   *Authentication systems, including software and handheld electronic devices. The products at issue in this investigation are the Research in Motion Blackberry device and associated software. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Prism Technologies of Omaha, Neb., which claims infringement of a patent. The ITC identified Research In Motion, Ltd. of Canada and Research in Motion Corp. of Irving, TX as respondents.
   *Liquid crystal display devices and products containing LCD displays such as televisions. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., of Seoul, Korea, on Dec. 1, which claims its patents have been infringed. The ITC said it has identified Sharp Corp. of Japan and two U.S. subsidiaries as respondents.
   *Products to regulate DC power in electronic devices. The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Richtek Technology Corp. of Taiwan and a U.S. affiliate which are seeking an exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order. The ITC identified five companies as respondents, including uPI Semiconductor Corp. of Taiwan; Advanced Micro Devices of Sunnyvale, Calif.; Sapphire Technology Limited of Hong Kong; Diamond Multimedia of Chatsworth, Calif.; and XFX Technology in Ontario, Calif.
   In each case the complainants are seeking exclusion orders and cease-and-desist orders.
