Military Sealift Command gets new Europe commander

Military Sealift Command gets new Europe commander    Capt. James Tranoris on Wednesday took over as head of the U.S. Military Sealift Command’s European operations, based in Naples, Italy.
   He replaced Capt. Nicholas H. Holman, who oversaw the command since March 2006, and has been assigned to Seattle to oversee the NROTC program at the University of Washington.
   Tranoris was chief of staff for the commander of U.S. naval forces in Korea.
   The Military Sealift Command’s European operation manages the at-sea movement of combat cargo for U.S. 6th Fleet. The European operation covers half the Atlantic Ocean, from the North Pole to Antarctica, as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North seas.
   The Military Sealift Command in total operates about 110 non-combatant merchant mariner-crewed ships that replenish U.S. Navy ships and moves military cargo and supplies to deployed U.S. forces.
