Data2Logistics talks hurricane season prep

As this year’s hurricane season begins, global freight bill processor and auditor Data2Logistics said it has begun preparing its customers for inbound and outbound shipping actions and changes around the expected hurricane and tropical storm activity.
Data2Logistics is providing customers with information on carrier and route options that it believes will lead to uninterrupted shipments while preparing for supply chain changes and risk management. The company’s data mining and reporting services outline a company’s best available options based on their logistics needs and can identify single-source exposures that create the greatest risk.
Many of these customers are in the middle of their hurricane-related operations and are making plans based around the end of the season. For example, those companies with domestic U.S. operations have already been moving hurricane-related products to potentially affected areas, shoring up inventory for coming demand not only if a storm strikes but also to take advantage of programs like Louisiana’s recent sales tax-free weekend for consumers buying hurricane-related and prevention gear.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center, the Atlantic Basin has a 70 percent chance of 9 to 15 named storms, of which four to eight will strengthen to hurricanes, according to projections. The Eastern Pacific Basin estimate shows a 70 percent chance of 12 to 18 named storms, which includes 5 to 9 hurricanes.
Data2Logistics provides freight bill auditing, processing payment and advisory services to companies that ship products domestically and internationally, integrating less-than-truckload, truckload, parcel, overnight express, ocean, air, and rail in its suite. – Geoff Whiting
