FEDEX WILL EXPAND EUROPE/ASIA CAPACITY

FEDEX WILL EXPAND EUROPE/ASIA CAPACITY    FedEx Express, the air freight delivery arm of U.S.-based FedEx Corp., said it will expand its international freighter operations this summer to accommodate growing demand in Europe and Asia.
FedEx will launch more direct flights linking its major hub at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and its AsiaOne hub in Subic Bay, the Philippines. The carrier will fly five direct MD-11 flights per week between Paris and Subic Bay.
FedEx will operate 10 weekly A310 flights connecting Europe, the Mideast, India and Asia, forming what the carrier called a “criss-cross” pattern between hubs at CDG, Dubai, Mumbai, Bangkok and Subic Bay. It will also launch 10 weekly A310 flights between CDG and Copenhagen to pull cargo from key Scandinavian markets.
“According to a recent study by McKinsey Co., 80 percent of goods manufactured around the world will be transported across borders by the year 2020, so we think the FedEx global network is well-positioned for that trend,” said David J. Bronczek, chief executive officer of FedEx Express.
“Express transportation has become the engine that drives global commerce by enabling businesses to source and sell their high-value goods in markets around the world,” Bronczek said.
Separately, FedEx recently announced an expansion of its worldwide freight services, offering express delivery of larger shipments to more destinations.
