Africa West adds freighter    Togo-based Africa West Cargo has leased a second DC9 freighter, adding to the company's list of planes serving various destinations in West and Central Africa.
   'Starting September, we will be able to accommodate increasing traffic and ensure faster connections to several destinations,' said Yannick Erbs, Africa West's chief executive officer, in a statement.
      'We, at Africa West, believe that Lome will soon become a world-class staging and hubbing point, as well as the gateway to West Africa,' Erbs said. 'Adding to our fleet, and thus boosting our services, is one of our contributions to ensuring that this goal is realized.'
   The cargo airline has recently added two destinations to its network, Freetown and Monrovia, which brings the scheduled destinations served across West Africa to 10, with a number of additional destinations served on request. Additionally, Africa West has a dedicated 1,800 square meters of warehousing in Lome that provides transfers to onward destinations.
   Africa West operates freighter services from Europe, Asia and the Middle East direct to Lome, and has recently commenced new direct operations from the United States and Milan with an MD-11 freighter, with more services and destinations that the company plans to announce soon.
   Africa West is managed by Dubai-based GSA Global Investments Ltd., which recently assumed 51 percent controlling interest of the cargo airline.
