Foxx ends bus trip with look to future

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx visited the site of the I-635 LBJ Freeway East project in Dallas on Friday, marking the end of his five-day bus tour and stressing how investment in infrastructure will help create a better world for future generations.
“Throughout our history, Americans have always been able to leave their children a brighter future, thanks in part to the opportunities transportation has provided,” Foxx said. “We are at risk of failing our children. We need to not only invest in America, but commit to the future — not only rebuild and repair our roads and bridges, but reimagine how we do it.”
Foxx is trying to gain support for the Obama administration’s $302-billion surface transportation reauthorization proposal. In Dallas, Foxx highlighted the LBJ freeway project, an 11-mile-long, highway-widening proposal that will cost $1.5 billion.
“Projects like the I-635 LBJ Freeway East will not only create jobs, but also lay the foundation for long-term economic growth for entire regions and industries,” he said.
Foxx previously visited Shreveport, La.; Jackson, Miss.; Atlanta; and Nashville during his trip.
