ACI: WORLD CARGO VOLUMES TUMBLE    World air cargo volumes tumbled 9 percent last April to 4.8 million metric tons, according to figures released this week by the Airports Council International.
   Volumes fell in all the major air freight markets, led by a 12.7-percent drop in North America volumes, to 2.1 million metric tons. Asia/Pacific volumes fell 6.7 percent to 1.3 million metric tons, while Europe saw a 3.8-percent decline to 1.0 million metric tons and Latin America/Caribbean volumes fell 6.6 percent to 198,833 metric tons.
   Africa and the Mideast were the only regions to show modest increases with Africa up 0.9 percent to 74,795 metric tons and the Mideast improving 0.4 percent to 198,833 metric tons.
   The four leading cargo airports saw double-digit declines in volumes. Memphis declined 10.7 percent to 177,981 metric tons, followed by Los Angeles, (down 13.6 percent to 173,296), Hong Kong (11.4 percent, 166,927) and Tokyo (11.9 percent, 142,611).
   Incheon, Korea, cracked the top 10 cargo airports in April, handling 115,396 metric tons. Only Anchorage, Alaska, and Dallas/Fort Worth showed increases among the 25 leading cargo airports for the month.
