Yachtsmen regularly hire heavy-lift shipping companies to move their boats between locales like the Mediterranean and Caribbean, for example.
Now a Middleton, R.I. company has come up with an alternative: the “container-friendly” yacht.
Container Yachts LLC unveiled its “Far Harbour 39” at the Newport International Boat Show last week. The prototype yacht was built at Schooner Creek Boat Works in Portland, Ore.
The boat can be stowed within a standard 40-foot container and shipped on a regular container ship.
The Web site MegaYachtNews Online said the sail-away price is $225,000, with sails and electronics.
