Savannah sees booming demand for warehousing space

A total of 1.7 million square feet of warehousing has recently been completed in Savannah, Ga., while over 1.9 million square feet is under construction and a 2,700-acre development was just unveiled.    A total of 1.7 million square feet of warehousing has recently been completed in Savannah, Ga. to meet booming demand, while over 1.9 million square feet is under construction and a 2,700-acre development was just unveiled, the Georgia Ports Authority said.
   In January, Georgia Marine Warehouse, Inc. opened a 100,000-square-foot warehouse just four miles from the Port of Savannah’s Garden City Terminal, with another 60,000 square feet under construction.
   Two weeks ago, Nordic Cold Storage opened a 200,000-square-foot cold storage and blast freezing facility in Savannah, following the launch of its 200,000-square-foot cold storage warehouse in Savannah in April 2013.
   OmniTRAX, a rail provider and industrial real estate company, is planning a 2,700-acre industrial park near the Port of Savannah. The company will provide capital for infrastructure, including a rail system to connect tenants to Class 1 rail operators.
   Meanwhile, OA Logistics/JLA Home, which already operates a 679,000-square-foot distribution center in Savannah, will soon open its 1.1 million-square-foot e-commerce fulfillment center at Northport Industrial Park.
   Safavieh, a rugs and home furnishing seller that currently has two properties in the area, is constructing a 500,000-square-foot facility in Savannah.
   Other industrial sites currently under development in Savannah include Port City Logistics’ 250,000-square-foot warehouse; the TPA Group’s 475,000-square-foot warehouse; and Panattoni Development Company’s 312,000-square foot building, complementing the company’s already existing 320,000-square foot structure.
   In addition, at the Pooler Distribution Complex several buildings ranging from 220,000 square feet to 88,000 square feet are currently under construction, along with a 240,000-square-foot structure.
