Long Beach box traffic growth slows The port of Long Beach continued to expand its container traffic by more than 15 percent in June, but its pace of growth slackened when compared to earlier months.
   The number of containers that crossed the docks of southern California’s fastest growth port climbed 17 percent to about 577,000 TEUs in June, from about 494,000 TEUs a year earlier.
   For the first six months of the year, box traffic at Long Beach soared 24 percent to 3.2 million TEUs.
   The neighboring port of Los Angeles, which has lost market share to Long Beach and other West Coast ports, is expected to report another decrease in box traffic for June. In May, Los Angeles suffered an 8-percent decrease to about 611,000 TEUs, while Long Beach expanded its container volume 21 percent to about 625,000 TEUs.
