ROADWAY CEO WICKHAM STEPS DOWN, LEADERSHIP TRANSITION SET IN MOTION    Roadway Corp., which owns one of largest unionized less-than-truckload carriers, said Michael Wickham will retire as chief executive officer March 26. James Staley, president of Roadway Express, will take over as CEO for Wickham, who will continue to serve as chairman.
   Robert Stull, 47, will succeed Staley as the head of Roadway Express, the corporation's major operating company. Robert Obee, 48, will take Stull's place as vice president, new venture commerce. Obee is chief information officer at Roadway Express.
   Effective immediately, John Bronneck, has been promoted to executive vice president for operations for Roadway Express, where he has served as vice president for operations.
   Wickham, 56, and Staley have worked their entire careers at Roadway. Wickham's 35-year rise through the ranks culminated in May 2001 when he was named CEO and chairman of the newly formed holding company. He had served in the same capacity at Roadway Express beginning in March 1998.
   Staley is the president of Trucking Management Inc., which last week negotiated a new five-year contract with the Teamsters union covering drivers and dockworkers on behalf of trucking companies represented by the Motor Freight Carriers Association.
   Roadway Corp. also owns regional less-than-truckload carrier New Penn Motor Express.
