Hamburg Sud responds to end of round-the-world loops    Hamburg Sud will start in February an independent fortnightly Europe/U.S. East Coast/Australia/New Zealand Trident service, when the weekly Westabout and Eastabout round-the-world services end.
   The Westabout and Eastabout services are coming to an end due to P&O Nedlloyd’s integration into Maersk. Other vessel providers include Hapag-Lloyd and its new sister company CP Ships. Hamburg Sud has provided one 2,500-TEU ship on the Westabout loop and has only taken slots on the Eastabout service.
   Hamburg Sud’s new Trident service will use six 2,000-TEU ships, each with at least 350 reefer plugs, and will have a port rotation of: Tilbury, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Philadelphia, Savannah, Cartagena (Colombia), Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Timaru or Port Chalmers, Napier, Tauranga, Cartagena, Savannah, Philadelphia and back to Tilbury.
   The vessel “Cap Vincent” will make the first southbound sailing Feb. 24 from Tilbury. The first northbound sailing will be made by the vessel “Columbus Waikato” from Sydney Feb. 22.
