“MTMC hopes to have a contract award within six months, and a new system developed within one year from that date,” said Maj. Gen. Kenneth L. Privratsky, commander of the military’s surface transportation logistics unit.
“This is a big deal for us,” he said. “For years, we’ve had scores of employees working on dedicated systems. Many quite good … The problem is they were stovepipes that didn’t talk to each other.”
The new systems are needed to replace MTMC’s Global Freight Management and Integrated Booking System software. “I’m interested in off-the-shelf product with demonstrated commercial success,” Privratsky said.
The Global Freight Management System is used for domestic freight shipments, while the Integrated Booking System is used for ocean freight movements. The system that is picked must comply with U.S. Transportation Command’s Corporate Data Environment and the Defense Department Joint Technical Architecture. As many as 35 firms have expressed interest in the contract, MTMC said.
Other MTMC systems that may be reviewed in the future are Worldwide Port System, Transportation Operational Personal Property Standard System, and Group Operational Passenger System.
