DP World in talks for $1b Lagos port expansion

The Dubai-based port operator is negotiating with Nigerian Ports Authority to build and expand infrastructure at Port of Lagos, according to multiple news sources.    Port operator DP World is in talks with Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) regarding a $1 billion port construction project, according to multiple news sources.
   The agreement would build a complex for container and bulk cargo transshipments in Lagos, as well as modernization and expansion of existing facilities at the port.
   “The NPA is currently working with DP World to actualize the organisation’s determination to invest in Greenfield port opportunities in this country,” said Nigerian Ports Authority Principal Manager for Public Affairs, I. S. Nasiru, according to a report from Port Technology. 
   “The plan is to develop a DP World Terminal in the Lagos area and a suitable site is currently being sought….the Bulk Terminal and the Greenfield are investments worth billions of United State Dollars,” continued Nasiru.
   DP World has also expanded its reach within the Africa and Indian regions, by signing agreements to operate a second port in the Horn of Africa at the Port of Berbera, as well as participating in infrastructure investments for India’s logistic center.
