The site, its second container drayage facility opened this year, will offer pickup and delivery to any point in the United States. Old Dominion's container drayage services include direct point-to-point delivery, loading, unloading, short-term warehousing and container pools for import and export shippers.
'The Mobile site responds to growing customer demand and expands our coverage throughout the South in close proximity to traditional drayage markets served by Old Dominion,' said Wayne Bersch, director of container operations, in a statement. 'This new site allows us to continue to hire new drivers and also use Southeastern-based drivers to serve market needs.'
Old Dominion has provided container drayage for more than 50 years and offers direct services from 11 cities. In addition to Mobile, the company offers this service in Atlanta; Chicago; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tenn.; Norfolk, Va.; Wilmington and Charlotte, N.C.; Charleston, S.C.; Savannah, Ga.; Huntsville, Ala.; and Jacksonville, Fla. In 2010, Old Dominion container drayage grew 35 percent, and the company continues to see strong growth in 2011.
The company opened the Memphis container drayage facility last month. It expects to open additional container drayage locations in the future.
