Cemex in bid to take over Rinker cement Two international giants in the cement industry with heavy interests in Florida are involved in a corporate skirmish involving a takeover bid.
   Mexico-base Cemex has made a $12.8 billion offer to buy Australia-based Rinker Group. One or both companies have terminal operations at several Florida ports, and import millions of tons of concrete per year, through Tampa, Port Everglades, Palm Beach, and Jacksonville. The two companies have some 1,200 employees in Florida.
   Thus far, Rinker has stiffly rebuffed Cemex's overtures. A report in the Palm Beach Post said that when a Cemex vice president flew to Sydney, Australia to meet with the Rinker board, the refused to see him.
