MARC 2000 merges into Waterways Council

MARC 2000 merges into Waterways Council The Midwest Area River Coalition, known as MARC 2000, has agreed to merge with the Waterways Council.
   Under the terms of the agreement, Waterways Council will retain the right to continue to use the name MARC 2000 to pursue inland waterway freight transportation improvements in the Midwest. However, by being a part of the Washington-based Waterways Council, lock modernization programs for the Upper Mississippi River and Illinois Waterway will gain more national attention.
   'This merger is a critically important step in allowing our industry to speak with one, nationally authoritative voice on issues related to inland waterways infrastructure,' said Mark Knoy, chairman of the Waterways Council, in a statement.
   MARC 2000 will maintain an office in St. Louis. The merger will be completed before the end of the year, the groups said.
   The Waterways Council membership comprises waterways carriers, shippers, port authorities, shipping associations and waterways advocacy groups from all regions of the country.
