Asia-Europe volume up 16% in February

   Westbound Asia-Europe volume rose 15.6 percent year-on-year in February, to 2.8 million TEUs, according to the latest figures from Container Trade Statistics.
   Eastbound, volume rose 8.8 percent to Asia in February, to 1.8 million TEUs.
   The large increases are due in part to the timing of the Lunar New Year this year compared to last. In 2011, it was in February, dragging down container volumes from Asia in that month, while this year it was in January. Westbound volume from Asia to Europe fell 2.9 percent in January.
   On the transatlantic trade, volume in February rose 10.6 percent eastbound, to 1.2 million TEUs, while it rose 21.7 percent westbound, to 1.4 million TEUs.
