U.S. grant to improve India’s aviation standards

U.S. grant to improve IndiaÆs aviation standards    The U.S. Trade and Development Agency on Monday awarded a $317,700 grant under the U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India to help to improve the country's aviation technology standards and processes.
   In a statement, the USTDA said the grant reflects its strategy of focusing on programs in India that create mutually beneficial relationships for advancing U.S.-India bilateral relations and opening markets to greater trade.
   The grant will support a standards training program conducted by U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program companies and comprise 21 courses in areas such as airworthiness, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration requirement compliance, and quality management. HEICO Parts Group of Hollywood, Fla., will contribute additional resources to the completion of the program, the USTDA said.
   During the grant award ceremony, USTDA Acting Director Leocadia I. Zak also announced plans to hold the second U.S.-India Aviation Summit in Washington in late fall and USTDA's intention to award a separate grant to India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation on helicopter safety and regulatory frameworks in the near future.
