Indamex service to call Savannah

   The Georgia Ports Authority said Monday the Indamex service connecting the U.S. East Coast with the Indian Subcontinent and eastern Mediterranean, will begin calling Savannah in December.
   With the new service, Savannah will be called by seven of the nine services transiting the Suez Canal to the U.S. East Coast, more than any other South Atlantic or Gulf port, said Executive Director Doug J. Marchand.
   A half-dozen carriers participate in the service: CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, NYK, APL and ANL Container Line. The service uses seven ships of 4,267-TEU average capacity, with three ships supplied by Hapag-Lloyd, two by CMA CGM, and one each by NYK and OOCL, according to ComPair Data, an affiliate of American Shipper.
   “In an effort to better align our service with customer requirements, a direct Savannah call will be added to the Indamex service, providing further direct connections between the Indian Subcontinent and the South Atlantic East Coast,” said a Hapag-Lloyd spokesman.
   The new port rotation will be Port Qasim, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Damietta, New York, Portsmouth-Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Port Said, Jeddah and Port Qasim. The new rotation will start with the voyage of the CMA-CGM Puget, which will depart from Mundra on Nov. 24 and arrive in Savannah on Dec. 19.
