Lufthansa freighters land in Seattle    Lufthansa Cargo this week begins a new freighter service to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, with an MD-11 scheduled to arrive Thursday.
   The new service will call Sea-Tac twice weekly from Frankfurt, before continuing to Los Angeles. One service flies direct from Frankfurt, while the second service stops in Toronto before Seattle.
   'Adding Lufthansa Cargo at Sea-Tac expands trade opportunities to Europe for regional industries and consumers,' said Bill Bryant, Port of Seattle commission president, in a statement. The airport comes under the jurisdiction of the Seattle Port Authority.
   The new Lufthansa service is the third freighter service from Sea-Tac to Europe. Other European freighters serving Sea-Tac are Cargolux to Luxembourg and Martinair to Amsterdam. The airport is served by four freighter services to Asia.
   Lufthansa Airlines, which started passenger services to Sea-Tac in March 2008, provides belly-cargo services, but the new freighter service will allow for larger items to be shipped by air and greater volumes per flight. The MD-11 freighter has capacity for more than 90 tons of cargo. Lufthansa serves eight U.S. cities with freighter service.
