Papaya imports linked to Salmonella outbreak    McAllen, Texas-based distributor Agromod Produce on Monday announced a national recall of all its papayas, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella
   Agromod had shipped fresh, whole papayas nationwide and to Canada through retail stores and wholesalers.
   In specific, the company is recalling all Blondie, Yaya, Ma'anita and Tastylicious Brand papayas sold prior to July 23.
   Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
   The company said the papayas were imported from Mexico and are possibly linked to 97 reported cases of Salmonella Agona, including 10 hospitalizations, in 23 states throughout the United States. Agromod is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to pinpoint the source of the Salmonella.
