Tata, Changi jointly bid to upgrade two Indian airports Indian steel and consumer good giant Tata and Singapore's Changi Airports International have jointly bid to upgrade airports in the eastern Indian cities of Calcutta and Chennai, Indian news agencies reported Friday.
   The costs to upgrade the airports, which are under two different jurisdictions in two different states, is unknown, and the state governments responsible for approving bids are thought to be favoring rivals bids — in the case of Calcutta a bid by the state-run Airports Authority of India.
   Most of India's major airports are in dire need of upgrades to handle burgeoning passenger and cargo growth, yet the Indian central and state governments have moved slowly to approve renovation and expansion projects.
