Drewry: Air cargo pricing regained loss in June

   After falling by $0.15 per kilogram in May, east-west air freight prices recovered slightly in June, moving up $0.08 to $3.30 per kilogram, according to Drewry’s East-West Air Freight Price Index.
   The index takes an average of what forwarders pay for a kilogram of airfreight on 21 east-west routes.
   In June 2013, customers spent an average of $3.06 to ship a kilogram of cargo; the same average price was also recorded in July, with sharp increases in pricing starting in August and running through November. The highwater mark for 2013 occurred in November, when customers paid an average of $3.81 per kilogram of airfreight.
   Air freight pricing has almost regained the $3.34-per-kilogram shippers were paying this March and is close to the 2014 high of $3.37 recorded in April.
   Drewry officials said they predict there will be “some weakening in overall pricing over the coming months, as more seasonal bellyhold capacity from rising passenger demand comes into the market.”
