FedEx receives first 767 cargo jet

   FedEx Express’ fleet modernization continued Friday when it introduced its first of 50 767-300 all-cargo planes it has ordered from Boeing. 
   In recent years, FedEx has transitioned to more fuel-efficient, lower-emission aircraft such as 777 widebody and 757 narrow-body freighters. During the summer, it parked its last Boeing 727.
   The 767, with a payload capacity of 127,000 pounds and a range of 2,922 nautical miles, is 30-percent more fuel efficient and 20-percent less expensive to operate than the MD-10 aircraft it will replace. The new arrival is undergoing certification required to begin service this fall. 
   FedEx said the ability to share parts, tooling and flight simulators with 757 freighters also helps make the 767 economical.
   With the 767 freighter, FedEx is also introducing a lighter unit load device that includes more recycled materials.
