Los Angeles-Long Beach box volume down 7.6% in March

Los Angeles-Long Beach box volume down 7.6% in March The combined container volume in March at the California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach decreased 7.6 percent to 1.08 million TEUs, down from 1.17 million in the same month last year.
   The Port of Los Angeles handled 583,923 TEUs in the month, down 7.3 percent year on year. Los Angeles’ monthly loaded inbound traffic dropped 7 percent at 295,956 TEUs, while loaded exports went up 21.1 percent to 154,980 TEUs. Total empty containers handled at Los Angeles declined 27.6 percent to 132,987 TEUs.
   The Port of Long Beach handled 498,114 TEUs in March, down 7.9 percent. Loaded imports slumped 9.8 percent to 228,328 TEUs with outbound loaded containers up 29.6 percent to 162,679 TEUs. Empties were down 34.1 percent to 107,107 TEUs.
   After three months of the year, the Port of Los Angeles’ throughput is down 6.1 percent to 1.85 million TEUs while the Port of Long Beach’s volume has decreased 7.4 percent to 1.55 million TEUs. The two ports’ combined volume for the year so far is down 6.7 percent at 3.4 million TEUs.
